Nebraska's History
Nebraska became a territory in 1854 with the creation of the
Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854. This territory existed from May 30,
1854 to March 1, 1867, when it was admitted to the Union as the
State of Nebraska. Nebraska consist of the ninety-three counties
listed to the left. The capital is in Lincoln (Lancaster County).
