PIONEER DIES HERE SUNDAY.
B. FOXHOVEN 72, SUCCUMBS AT HIS HOME HERE ABOUT 2.A.M.
20 YEARS IN KNOX. FUNERAL IS HELD TUESDAY MORNING AT ST. ROSE
CHURCH AND INTERNMENT IS MADE HERE.
Bartel Foxhoven, 72, a resident of Knox County for over 20
years died at his home in Crofton about 2.A.M. Sunday. He had been in
poor health for several years but was not confined to his home until the
last few weeks. He was born Jan. 11, 1863 at Jonsburg, Wisconsin
and died Jan.6, 1935. He would have been 73 Friday of this week.
On April 15, 1890 he was married to Wilhelmina Niemeyer at St. Bernard
Church, St. Bernard, Nebraska by the Rev. P. McPaneratius. To this
union six sons and three daughters were born. They are William, Anton,
Henry, John, Edward, Joe and daughters Mrs. Mary F. Guenther, Elizabeth,
Mrs. G. Kuehler and Katherine at home.&nbs p; They all survive and live
in the vicinity of Crofton. He is also survived by five brothers ,
William and John of Harlan, Ia., Peter, Anton and Michael of Colorado and
four sisters Mrs. Emma Pimpel residing in Colorado, Mrs. Mary Schwery, Mrs.
Christina Fefeber both from Iowa and Mrs. Katherine Kirkpatrick of Omaha.
There are also 33 grandchildren.
Mr. Foxhoven was an early Iowa pioneer having arrived with
his parents Mr. and Mrs. John Foxhoven in Shelby County, Iowa where they
settled six miles northwest of Harlan, Iowa. When he was 26 he came to
Nebraska where he settled on a farm near Humphrey, living there about four
years, He lived at Randolph about eighteen years and then came to Knox
County where he lived on a farm a bout five years. For the last
fifteen years he resided in Crofton.
A large crowd atttended the funeral Tuesday morning at St.
Rose Church where the Rev. W. A. Cappius officiated. Pallbearers
include six sons Henry, William, Anton, John, Edward and Joe. Geo O.
Whisler, local funeral director had charge of the funeral.
Out of town relatives who were here included Mr. and Mrs.
Steve LaFaver, Harlan: John Foxhoven, Defiance, Iowa: Mrs. Mary Schwery and
son Lawrence and daughter Bertha, Panama City, Iowa; a brother William
Foxhoven, son Albert and daughter Cecelia, Earling, Iowa; visited at his
bedside a few days before his death, returned home Friday.
