MANKE, MANKEY, FILTER (3 Nov 2001)

Requesting information on the names MANKE/MANKEY and FILTER. My grandfather Albert MANKE arrived in Creighton Twnshp about 1879 at the age of 8 with his parents Fredrick and Charlotte (REICHWALDT) from WI and previously from W. Prussia.

His brothers and sisters include Fredrick B. (later married to Bertha REPENNING), Adelina (later married to Chris REPENNING), Herman, Emil, and John. Fredrick MANKE was a farmer and also Fredrick B. and Emil. although I have quite a bit of info on grandfather Albert, I have next to no information on his family except what I have found in 1880 census and 1885 State census.

My grandmother Emilie/Amelia FILTER MANKE seems to have been adopted/taken in (this had been a family rumor) by William and Hanna/Johanna (Drager) sometime between 1880 and 1885. She was not listed on the 1880 census when she would have been 8 but was listed on the 1885 state census as age 12. They were also the parents of August C. and William. There may also have been a son Charles and there is also a Carl FILTER in the picture although how related I don't know. I do not know when they arrived in Creighton Twnshp where they farmed. William the son later also farmed.

August C. and Ernest F. FILTER (a cousin) later operated a large variety store in Bloomfield. Query dated 11/3/01
