JAMES G. AND BARBARA L. CARLSON

Dr. James G. Carlson, wife Barbara and children Marla, Jay, Colleen and Troy moved to Verdigre in 1961. Holly was born in 1962.

Dr. Carlson began a medical practice in Verdigre as a result of the efforts of the “Doctor for Verdigre Corporation.” He practiced full time for 24 years. In 1985 he moved to Lincoln to become Assistant Director of the Family Practice Residency Program and continued to practice part time in Verdigre.

Dr. Carlson was active in the community being chairman of the Verdigre Improvement Club, Verdigre Development Corporation, and the Board of Education. He and his family donated the land which is occupied by Wildwood Acres Park.

Barbara was active in the community being chairperson of the Verdigre Improvement Council which gained Verdigre state and national recognition as an All America City in 1972. She served on the Board of Education, Park and Recreation Board, and Arts Council, was involved in Girl Scouts and 4-H, and taught kindergarten for three years. She completed her doctorate in education in 1984.

Their children are Marla Carlson Sandoval, husband David and daughters Mallory and Britanny who reside in Houston, Texas, where she and her husband are employed by Shell Oil Co.

Jay and wife Pamela (Johnson) reside in Millard where he teaches at Millard South High and she is a nursing administrator at Children’s hospital.

Colleen Carlson Grodzicki, husband John and daughter Whitney reside in Dearborn, Michigan, where she is employed by three MD’s and he is a representative for American Check Co.

Troy and wife Kristal and daughter Brandie reside in Lincoln where he is employed at the Lincoln Regional Center and she attends nurses school.

Holly Carlson Pavlik and husband Greg (son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin “Buddy” Pavlik) reside in Wayne where Greg is furthering his education at Wayne State College.

Barbara’s great-grandmother, Mary Levy, resided in Verdigre in the late 1800s. She lived in the only brick house in Verdigre at the time which was located on the land now owned by the Buddy Pavliks. Barbara’s mother, Frances Lass Claussen, and her parents, Otto and Barbara Levy Lass, resided on a Stoney Butte farm around 1914.
