DARRELL AND LILLIAN [ASMUS] DARNELL

Darrell Darnell, son of George and Hester Hewitt Darnell, was born December 24, 1922, at Seneca, Kansas. He married Lillian Asmus January 23, 1944. Lillian, the daughter of William and Elizabeth Jurgens Asmus, was born May 13, 1925, in Audubon County, Iowa.

Darrell and his sister, Margaret, went to school north of Verdigre where Alma Lloyd Buxton was their teacher in 1935-1937.

Darrell was in the CCC at Chamberlain, South Dakota, harvested in the Dakotas, and worked in George Darnell’s Shoe & Harness Shop. In 1941 he went to Iowa where he farmed until he entered the Navy January 1, 1945. He was based in Hawaii.

Before retirement Darrell was a Gage County maintenance man. He has a saw sharpening business and Mrs. Darnell is a seamstress in their home in Wymore, Nebraska.
