ROBERT AND BERNADETTE [BALLEWEG] DVORAK

Robert William Dvorak was born living, to William and Elizabeth (Ahle) Dvorak of rural Verdigre. He attended Verdigre rural schools and then graduated from Verdigre high School in 1944. He was baptized, received his First Holy Communion, and was confirmed at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Verdigre. After graduation he farmed with his father three miles east of town. On September 12, 1949, he married Bernadette Irene Balleweg, daughter of Otto and Mary (Tharnish) Balleweg, at St. Ludger’s Catholic Church in Creighton, Nebraska. During their first year of marriage they lived on and farmed the Emil Jedlicka farm southeast of Verdigre (along with his father’s farm).

In 1950 Bob’s father bought and moved the Sandoz house to his farm. This is where Bob and Bernadette raised their ten children, all graduates of Verdigre High School. All were baptized, received their First holy Communion, and were confirmed in the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Verdigre.

The children and grandchildren of Bob and Bernadette are as follows.

Linda Kathryn was born living. After high school she attended Weaver Airline School in Kansas City, Missouri, and worked for North Central Airlines for seven years; she was stationed in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. While attending airline school, she met Charles E. Trent of Tampa, Florida, also a student. After he served two years in the army, they were married September 16, 1972, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Verdigre. They have two children: Robert Charles, born living, and Carrie Ann, born living. They live in St. Charles, Missouri, where Linda is an instructor’s aid at St. Robert’s Catholic School and Chuck is employed by T.W.A.

Richard Robert was born June 8, 1950. Following high school, he went to Pender, Nebraska, and worked at Pender Manufacturing for two years. On August 22, 1970, he married Alysia Skalicky at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Verdigre. He worked as a farmhand around Verdigre for several years. In April of 1981, they moved to Hooper, Nebraska, to work for a feeder-farmer. They have two children: Cindy Kay, born May 23, 1972, and Christopher Richard, born December 1, 1980.

Rita Jean was born living. After high school she was a nurse’s aid at the Creighton Care Centre and Antelope Memorial Hospital in Neligh, Nebraska. On July 14, 1973, she married Michael May of Niobrara, Nebraska, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Verdigre. Rita is a CSM and is employed at Alpine Village Nursing Home in Verdigre. Micky is an insurance salesman. They have three children: Michelle Lea, born living; Erin Marie, born living, and Ross William, born living. They live southwest of Verdigre.

Terry Lee was born living. Following graduation he attended Northeast Tech Community College in Norfolk, Nebraska. On December 20, 1975, he married Debbie Hrkedal of Leigh, Nebraska, at Grace Lutheran Church, Wayne, Nebraska. Terry is a salesman for Apache Manufacturing Co. of Hoskins, Nebraska. Debbie works for Dale Electronics in Norfolk. They have two children: Justin Lee, born living, and Travis William, born living. They live in Norfolk, Nebraska.

Loretta May was born living. Following high school graduation, she attended Patricia Stevens School of modeling and merchandising in Omaha. After graduation she worked as a display person in various stores in Omaha. On February 12, 1977, Lori married Joseph Sandhoefner, Jr., of Omaha at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Verdigre. They have lived in California and North Dakota where Joedy was a Border Patrol Officer. In 1981 they moved back to Omaha. Joedy is now an Omaha Police Officer. They have two children: Derek Eugene, born living, and Kyla Marie, born living.

Max William was born living. After high school, he worked as a farmhand. He is employed by Vakoc Construction Co. of Verdigre and lives southwest of Verdigre.

Joseph Otto was born living. Following high school, Joe worked as a farmhand. He is now living and employed in Greeley, Colorado.

Dale Francis was born living. He graduated from Verdigre high and then stayed to help his father on the same farm his grandfather bought nearly 50 years ago.

Connie Ann was born living. After high school graduation, she went to St. Charles, Missouri, and worked in various clothing stores for four years. In 1981 she moved to Omaha and is employed at Metro Health Services Federal Credit union in Omaha, Nebraska.

Jane Elizabeth was born living, and following graduation she attended NCCW College in Powell, Wyoming. Jane now lives in Omaha, Nebraska and is employed as an Emergency Room Secretary at St. Joseph’s hospital in Omaha.
