[pg 248 PHOTO Taken July 28, 1953, on the dock at Little Mantrap Lake, Minnesota. From left: Mrs. Paul. T. Holan and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Franek]

John Franek, son of Veronika Jedlicka and Joseph Franek, was born at Dobronice on May 13, 1877. On April 18, 1899, he married Frances Beran.

He first bought a farm near the ZCBJ (now Hillcrest) Cemetery. He sold this farm to Frank Barta (and in turn the farm passed to Frank Holan and eventually to Frank O. Skokan). Then he bought 320 acres from Anton Tichy in the Southeast Quarter of Section 11 and the Southwest Quarter of Section 12 in Sparta Township. He eventually sold this farm to his son Ernest. There were six children; Ernest, Sylvia, Marie, Emily, Joe who died at three months, and Helen.

John Franek died March 20, 1958. His wife, the daughter of John and Veronica Mlady Beran, was born January 29, 1876, and died January 2, 1954.

Ernest Franek, son of John and Frances Franek, was born November 29, 1900. On April 15, 1936, he married Helen Holecek, daugher of Anton and Emma Benda Holecek. There was one son, Raymond. Ernest took over the family farm.
