JAMES J. AND EMMA [CERNOUSEK] FRANK

James J. Frank was born lMarch 25, 1870, in Villov, Bohemia, the fourth child of Frantisek and Anna (Busek) Frank. At the age of twelve, he came to America with his family.

He married Emma Cernousek at Osmond on October 3, 1897. She was born in Butler County on July 10, 1881, and at two years of age, moved to Verdigre wit her family. In her early teens, she accepted employment in the Osmond area where she met her future husband. They lived at Osmond five years before moving to Verdigre. They were the parents of nine children.

Vincent, born 1898, married Millie Marshall and they had three sons: Emil, Vernon D. and Vincent L. Vernon married June Boshjaly and they had three children: Jerry Lee, Larry Dean (died in infancy), and Leona. Vernon’s second wife was Kathryn Erbst. He was killed in a motorcycle accident in Spokane, Washington, in June of 1964.

James T. was born in 1900. He and Mamie Forman were married at Verdigre February 15, 1927, by Judge Bill Bruce. They had three children: Margie, Eleanor, and Dean J. Margie married Delmar Krupicka and they had five sons: Darrel

Gregory, Jesse, Steven, and Calvin. Margie died of cancer in 1970 and is buried at L’Eau Qui Court Cemetery at Niobrara. Eleanor married Wayne Remillard (he died in 1981), and they had one son, Loren. Dean J. married Betty M. Sedivy and they have four children: Michael, Clifford, Michelle, and Richard. Dean and Betty are now divorced.

Joseph A. was born in 1902. He and Sylvia Slechta were married at O’Neill, Nebraska, by judge C. J. Malone on April 20, 1932. They had a daughter Darlene and a son Robert Dean. Joe A. died in 1974 and is buried at Jelen Cemetery. Darlene married Leo Marshall on November 28, 1956, and they have four children: Patricia, Russell, Connie, and Carol. Leo and Darlene were divorced in 1972. Patricia married Charles Alder in 1974 and they have three children: Marsha, Gregory and Michelle. Russell married Betty Vakoc in 1977 and they have two daughters, Holly and Laura. Connie married Jim Hunt in 1979 and they have a son Chad and a daughter Sara. Carol married Scott Wilson in 1980 and they have a son Kyle. Robert married Jane Rudloff in 1983 and they hare the parents of five children: Matthew, Melinda, Troy, Stacie, and Kimberly.

Emma was born in 1904 and she married Joseph Skalicky on February 28, 1922. They had three sons: Alvin, who die in Germany during World War II, Raymond, and Virgil, who died in infancy. Emma died December 3, 1966, and Joe died November 1, 1979. They are buried at Jelen cemetery beside their sons.

Bessie was born May 4, 1906. Her first husband was Anton Dobry. She later married Waymond (Doc) Hazen. Bessie died October 21, 1978, and is buried at Greenwood Cemetery, Creighton, Nebraska.

Mary was born September 13, 1908, and died February 21, 1982. She married James Mudra at Verdigre and they farmed west of town. He died September 25, 1932. She later married John Nielsen and they farmed in the Wausa and Plainview vicinity until his death in 1964. On August 7, 1971, she married Joe Sladek of Verdigre. Mary is buried at Plainview. Joe died September 10, 1984, and is buried at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in Verdigre, Nebraska.

Fred A. married Martha Marshall in 1935 and they were parents of three sons: Donovan, Fred M. , and Larry L. Martha died in 1952 and in 1957 Fred married Frances Melcher. Donavan married Marilyn Frederickson and they had three children: Shelly, Devin, and Tafeline. Marilyn was killed in a traffic accident in 1984 and Donavan married Betty Count in 1985. Fred M. married Kathy Gillilan and they have one son Jeffrey. Larry L. married Marilyn Block and they have three children: Julie, Mark, and Garron.

Alice was born May 8, 1912, and married Fred A. Chase. Their only child, Betty Jean, died in 1940 at the age of seven. The Chases currently live in San Diego, California.

Sophie was born in 1915 and married Doyle Hull in 1932. They had four children: Loraine (1933-1934), Marvin (1934-?), Bobby, who is living in Nebraska, and Donnie, who lives in North Carolina. Sophie and Doyle were divorced and she married Henry Schmidt in 1945. She passed away January 6, 1970, and is buried at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Island, Nebraska.

James J. Frank passed away on July 14, 1948. Emma preceded him in death on January 17, 1930. Both are buried at the Bohemian National Cemetery in Jelen.
