FRANK J. AND ROSY [VECERA] HANZLIK

[pg 257 PHOTO Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hanzlik]

Frank J. Hanzlik was born in Bohemia on April 15, 1890. As a young man he left his native land, arriving in the United States of America in 1909. He was listed on his naturalization papers as a “subject of Austria,” and was the only member of his immediate family to come to the United States. (Emil Hanzlik of Verdel, now deceased, was a distant cousin.)

On January 28, 1913, Frank J. married rosy Vecera who was born in Verdigre. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Vecera, Sr., moved to Verdigre from Lodgepole, Nebraska, arriving the day before she was born. (Refer to Vecera history.)

Frank and Rosy Hanzlik were the parents of five sons and one daughter. Now deceased are sons Frank, Jr., Joseph and Vaclav, and their daughter, Marie Hanzlik Carlson. Surviving sons are John of Madison and Charles of Omaha.

The Hanzlik family moved from the Verdigre area to Creighton in 1945. Frank Hanzlik had been a farmer but in 1948 he took up carpentry. He died January 26, 1964. Rosy moved to the Wisner Manor at Wisner, Nebraska, in 1978 and lived there until her death in July of 1985.
