CHARLES AND JOSEPHINE [VRASPIER] HAVLICEK

Charles Havlicek was born August 7, 1882, to John and Frantiska (Opocensky) Havlicek. He received his schooling in a country school and grew up to become a farmer.

In 1903, Charley was 20, so his mother deeded the family homestead to him. He later added more land on the east side of the creek and farmed until his own son, Edward, took over.

Charles married Josephine Vraspier, the daughter of Frank and Katie Vraspier of Verdel, on February 28, 1916. They had five children: Ruth, Frances, Edward, Beatrice, and Johnny. Beatrice and Johnny died as infant children.

Josephine grew ill and died of tuberculosis in 1928, leaving her young children motherless. Charley died in 1941 following a stroke.
