FLOYD AND ELSIE [BUTTERFIELD] HILDRETH

Floyd Hildreth and Elsie Butterfield were married in O’Neill on May 14, 1927. They lived on the August Block farm west of the Walnut Store for about three years. (This is now the farm residence of the Ronald Cook family.) From there they moved to the Venus area and lived until 1941. They then moved back to the Block farm near Walnut.

Floyd drove a maintainer for the county out of Walnut for nearly ten years. Tom Tikalsky was the supervisor at the time. In 1951, Floyd and Elsie moved into Verdigre where Floyd had employment at the Farmers’ Co-op Store for 21 years. Joe Jacot was the manager of the Co-op for many of those years. In 1970 Floyd retired from the Co-op.

Elsie worked part time at the Verdigre Livestock market and at the Co-op.

During their years in Verdigre, they lived in a house by the creek. This house, then owned by Walt Dobrichovsky, was destroyed by fire in the 1970s.

In 1971 Floyd and Elsie bought a home in Royal, Nebraska, near their daughter Helen and family. Floyd worked on the Radar Brothers’ farm for a few years and also for his brother-in-law, Ottie Mitteis. He is now water commissioner for the village of Royal.

Floyd and Elsie were baptized into the Christian faith at the Methodist Church in Verdigre on April 13, 1952. They also became members of this church on that date. Rev. Beebe was the minister at the time. On November 20, 1970, Floyd and Elsie had their church membership transferred to the Royal United Methodist Church.

Six children were born to them: Harold (Bud) of Medford, Oregon; Garold of Washington, D.C.; Helen Mitteis of Royal; Frances Blessen of Verdigre; LaVonne Pavlik of Norfolk; and Darrell Lee (deceased).

Floyd and Elsie Hildreth celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in May of 1977 and they will mark their sixtieth in Verdigre’s Centennial year - 1987.
