FRANK AND MARY [BECEK] JANNA

Frank Leopold Janna was born in Vienna, Austria, on July 22, 1864. At the age of 21 years, in 1885, Frank emigrated to the United States stopping first at Chicago, Illinois. Later he came to Knox County, Nebraska.

Frank married Mary Kate Bicek on February 23, 1892. Mary was a daughter of Lucas and Maria (Tikalsky) Bicek, farmers near Verdigre. Mary Kate was born in Chicago, Illinois, in January of 1871 and moved to Knox County, Nebraska, with her parents when she was a small child.

In 1899 Frank and Mary Janna purchased a quarter section in Miller Township. There they raised their family and spent the remainder of their lives. To this union were born six daughters and one son: Othilda, Ida, Lydia, Adeline, Ellen, William, and Eve.

Othilda married Louis Novak and their children are Velma, Norma, Melvin, Paul, and LaVon.

Ida married Andrew Burkhardt. Their children are Marjorie, Gordon, and Rosalie.

Lydia and her husband John Burkhardt had three children: Jack, Lois, and Carol.

Adeline married Floyd Walton. Their children are Donald, Loren, Ivan, and Merlyn.

Ellen and William never married and lived on the farm until William’s death in September of 1986.

Eve died in infancy.

Mary Kate Bicek Janna will always be remembered as a kind and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She passed away September 3, 1941.

Frank suffered from arthritis and spent fourteen years of his life in a wheelchair. He died June 13, 1949.

Both have been laid to rest in the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery at Verdigre, Nebraska
