GUY AND HAZEL [BRADY] JOHNSON

Guy Johnson, the oldest son of Carl and Helma Johnson, entered the U. S. Army June 24, 1918, and served in the Medical Corps and Cavalry. He was discharged February 13, 1919. If the Armistice had not been signed, his orders were to go to Siberia.

On September 7, 1921, he married Hazel Marie Brady, daughter of John A. .and Effie Brady of Dorsey, Nebraska, in Lincoln. Their attendants wee Harry Johnson and Fay Brady. They lived just north of his boyhood home until March of 1924 when they moved to Holt County to a farm. Guy purchased from William Orsborn. They both lived there until their death. Hazel passed away on April 7, 1935, in childbirth, and Guy died on August 7, 1970. They and two of their children are buried at the Star Cemetery.

Guy and Hazel had four children: Marcella, Jolene, Richard Guy (who died at birth), Geraldine Fay, and a baby girl who was stillborn.

Guy ranched and bought and sold horses in Nebraska, North and South Dakota, Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky. He and his brother Harry also broke horses to work and ride. Guy and Harry also furnished all the teams of horses which the C.C.C. boys used to build the Niobrara State Park at Niobrara, Nebraska, in the mid 1930s.

Marcella attended District 122, Gibson School, all eight years. Geraldine attended District 122 for six years. The last two years she attended District 57, Osborne School.

Marcella married Robert N. Sholes of Inman, Nebraska, at the Dorsey Presbyterian Church in 1946. Prior to their marriage, Bob had served 33 months in the Armed Forces, 1943-46, 16 months in the European Theater. He received the Purple Heart. They reside on the home place. They have three daughters: Constance Jeanne, Christine Marie, and Cynthis Louise. Connie married Dennis Wickersham and they have two sons, Darin and Dallas. Dennis was in the U.S. Army from 1969-70 serving a tour of duty in Vietnam. Christie married Kenard Kreycik and their children are Steven and Stacy. Cindy married Robert Orsbon and their son is Brett.

Geraldine Fay married John E. Babl of rural O’Neill in Sioux City, Iowa, in 1952. They reside on a farm 1 ˝ miles south of the home place. Their thee children are Colleen Marie, Curtis Guy, and Catherine Lynn. Colleen married Randy Butterfield and they have three daughters, Trina, Tonya and Tara. Curt married Victoria Schwager and their two sons are Ryan and Tyler. Cathy married Edward Pavel and Charissa is their daughter.

Marcella and Geraldine and their six children all graduated from O’Neill High School.
