VAC AND DONNA [BERGER] MALY, JR.

Vac Maly, Jr., was born in 1918 in a log cabin on the Maly homestead which is now occupied by the Mike Veselys. When Vac was seven years old, his dad sold the Maly homestead to Pratras and they moved to the farm where Elven Hamilton now lives. There were no buildings on the land, so in 1924 Vac, Sr., built the barn and in 1928 he built their home and other buildings. East of the house there was a cottonwood grove. Vac got a saw mill and made all the lumber for these buildings. He also owned a threshing machine by 1918 and for many years he spent months threshing for all his neighbors.

Vac, Jr., graduated from high school in 1937 and stayed on the farm to help his dad. In 1941 Vac married Donna Berger, daughter of Harry and Blanche Berger. Donna was born on a farm north of Winnetoon, attended grade school, and graduated from Verdigre High School in 1940. Donna has one sister, Marjorie, living at Tacoma, Washington, and one brother who lives in Washington, D.C.

In 1943 twins Kenneth and Kathryn were born to Vac and Donna, and in 1959 Jimmy was born.

Kenneth and Kathryn attended Verdigre school and the year they graduated Kenneth enlisted in the Navy.

In 1966 Kenneth married Marlene Vavak, daughter of Adeline and the late Marvin Vavak. Kenneth and Marlene were blessed with four children: Kevin, Trenton, Kinsey and Tanner. At present , they are both employed at the Grand Island Post Office.

Kathryn worked in Norfolk and Chadron and in 1964 she married Larry E. Masat, son of the late Ben and Rose (Vakoc) Masat. Larry was born and raised at Hemingford. Larry and Kathy were the parents of three children: Jackie, Lance (deceased), and Jason. They have lived in and around Verdigre all their married lives.
