VIRGIL AND ELLEN [DRYAK] MILLER

Virgil H. Miller was born living, to Irven and Lillie Miller at Orchard, Nebraska. He was raised in the Walnut, Nebraska, area and attended school at the Walnut school for the K-8 grades. In August of 1957, he moved with his parents to Verdigre where he attended Verdigre High School, graduating in 1961.

Ellen M. Dryak was born to Bennie and Stazie Dryak on a farm 15 miles northwest of Verdigre. She attended Stoney Butte School for the K-8 grades and attended high school in Verdigre, also graduating in 1961

Ellen and Virgil were married June 16, 1963. They have three sons: Clint Alan, born living; Brent Lee, born living, and Grant Reed, born living.

After graduation, Ellen went to work as a bookkeeper for NCPPD in Creighton, Nebraska, for a short time. Since their marriage she has worked as a bookkeeper for the Verdigre Livestock Market and other part-time jobs. Most of her time has been spent being a homemaker and mother for the family.

Virgil started working for the Village of Verdigre in 1962 and worked there until June of 1966. At that time, he started working for Schreier’s Lumber Company, where he is presently employed. Virgil also drove school bus for Verdigre Public School for about 15 years, beginning in 1962. Virgil joined the Verdigre Volunteer Fire Department in January, 1964, and has served as an executive board member, assistant chief, president, and presently as fire chief. He has also been a member of the Verdigre Improvement Club for many years. Virgil was appointed to serve on the village Board of Trustees in March of 1981. He was re-elected in May of 1982, and again in 1986. He was elected Chairman of the Village Board in June of 1984, a position that he holds at this time.

The Virgil Millers have resided in Verdigre all their married life and at their present address since August 1964.
