DUANE AND DIANA [CARLSON] MLADY

Duane Mlady was born living, at Norfolk, Nebraska, to Mr. and Mrs. Leo Mlady. He grew up on the family farm 1 ½ miles north of Verdigre. He attended Verdigre Public Schools from which he graduated in 1966 after being active in FFA, band, and sports. Duane went on to attend college for two years before enlisting in the U. S. Army where he served as a Veterinary Food Inspector.

Diana Carlson was born living, at Bloomfield, Nebraska, to Mr. and Mrs. Dale Carlson of rural Winnetoon. She attended country school at District 21 until the fifth grade and then attended school at Creighton, graduating from Creighton Public Schools in 1967. Diane worked at the American National Bank in Creighton for two years before moving to Blair, Nebraska, where she was employed at Washington County Bank.

After Duane completed 2 ½ years of military duty, he and Diana were united in marriage October 7, 1972, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Verdigre by the Rev. Charles J. Oborny. They made their home nine miles west of Bloomfield, Nebraska, where Duane became manager of Husker Pig Co-op, Inc. Diana was employed by the Farmers and Merchants State Bank in Bloomfield until the birth of their first child, Cheri, on living, 1974. Duane and Diana were blessed with three more children in the following years: Christy was born living; Tim, living, and Travis, living.

Diana has been a homemaker besides working part time with her husband who has managed the 750-sow unit since their marriage. Duane has been active in the Knox County Pork Producers, a 4-H leader, 4-H Council, and Extension Board.

The family participates in school, church, 4-H, and community activities. They enjoy camping, gardening, and raising donkeys as a hobby.
