FRANK AND MARIE [CHLUPSA] SOUCEK

Frank Soucek, Sr., was born August 15, 1870, in Podmokli, Bohemia, to Frank and Barbora Soucek. He came to the United States in his early youth, first locating in Saunders County near Morse Bluff, Nebraska. He had two sisters, Rosalie and Annie. Rosalie married Mart Sinkey and Annie married Jim Levy.

On December 15, 1891, he married Marie Chlupsa in Saunders County. The young couple moved to Knox County the same year and settled on a farm in the Walnut community, 9 miles west and ¼ mile south of Verdigre. Here they lived and raised their four sons and two daughters: Ernest J., Frank R., Fred B., Alice M., George O., and Sylvia E.

Ernest was born January 5, 1893. He married Anna J. Somr, daughter of Frank and Katherine Somr. They had three children: Evelyn, Elsie, and Elaine. Evelyn married George Skokan and they have three sons and one daughter. Elsie is single. Elaine married Duane Ryan and they have one son and one daughter.

Frank R. Soucek was born August 22, 1894, and he married Julia Tomasek, daughter of Joe and Anna (Somr) Tomasek. They settled on open prairie, nine miles west of Verdigre where they built all their buildings. To them two sons were born: Raymond F. on February 8, 1917, and Leonard L., November 26, 1919. Leonard passed away January 22, 1946.

Raymond married Georgia Kliment, daughter of Louis and Mary (Schultz) Kliment in Atkinson, Nebraska. They settled on a ranch (formerly the Cheney Ranch) 10 miles west and 1 ¼ miles north of Verdigre. They have three children: Marvin and Marlene - twins, born living, and Richard, born living. They lived on the ranch till the fall of 1975 when they moved into Verdigre. Their son, Marvin, who married Wanda J. Fausch, daughter of Calvin and Lila (Dillon) Fausch of Guide Rock, Nebraska, had two children, Christine and Kevin. Kevin passed away August 15, 1983, at the age of 13 years. Marvin and Wanda Soucek took over the ranch and are living on the same farm that Raymond and Georgia owned. Marlene Soucek married Kenneth Meyer, son of Albert and Helen (Kotrous) Meyer of Creighton, Nebraska. They are the parents of three children: Michael, Alan, and Julia, and they live in St. Paul, Nebraska. Richard Soucek married Nancy Hayes, daughter of Larry and Beverly (Weisnir) Hayes of Bettendorf, Iowa. They have one son, James. Richard and Nancy are chiropractors with their office and home in Seward, Nebraska.

Fred B. Soucek married Sylvia M. Pavlik, daughter of John and Albina (Mlady) Pavlik. They have one daughter, Imogene, who married Wilford Castle. They have two sons, John and Steven.

Alice M. Soucek married Vincent E. Cihlar. They had one daughter, Evelyn, who married Clarence Latimer and they have one son, Harlan.

George O. Soucek married Evelyn Wirth, daughter of George and Emma (Holan) Wirth. To them was born one daughter, Norma. She married James Burt and they had three children: Tom, Mary, and Janelle. Tom passed away November 26, 1967. Mary married Tom Upshaw and Janelle married Keith Koertje. George and Evelyn are still living on the home place where his folks began their married life in 1897.

Sylvia E. Soucek was born November 8, 1913. She moved into Verdigre with her parents when they retired in August of 1928. In February, 1929, her father, Frank Soucek, Sr., passed away. Sylvia continued to live with her mother, Marie Soucek. During this time, she was employed at the Farmers’ Co-op Store and after that she worked for over forty years at the Verdigre Creamery Co., and Locker Plant. She also looked after her mother who passed away on March 2, 1968. Sylvia still lives in the same home to which her folks retired.
