The Wausa Gazette September 6, 1934 S. J Lindblad Passed Away Saturday From Intestinal Disorder Funeral services were held for S.J. Lindblad Tuesday afternoon, with Mr. Rueben Olson in charge of the services. After a short illness, Mr. Lindblad passed away Saturday morning at the Yankton hospital where he had bee brought the preceding Thursday for treatment. The cause of his death was diagnosed as strangulation of the intestines. His death came as an unexpected shock to the members of his family and to the community. Together with his family Mr. Lindblad has been a resident of Wausa for forty years, and was well known and respected by everyone. The passing of this pioneer who has seen the town grow from its beginning is a real loss to the community. Funeral services for the deceased were held at the home in the northeast part of town Tuesday afternoon, and interment was made in the Woodlawn cemetery. A large concourse of relatives and friends had gathered to pay their last respects to the deceases. Swan Johan Lindblad was born in Kroneberg, Sweden, March 10 1860. With his parents he came to America in 1868, locating in LaPorte, Indiana. He was confirmed in the Swedish Lutheran church of LaPorte. On April 6, 1889 he was united in holy matrimony to Ida Carolina Anderson. This union was blessed with ten children. The family moved to Wausa in 1892. Mr. Lindblad has always been a hard worker, and has been engaged in public office for many years. Because of his kind disposition he won many friends. Mr. Lindblad passed away Saturday morning September 1, after a short illness, having reached the age of 74 years, 5 months and 21 days. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, eight children: Mrs. Edwin Johnson of Lyons, Bert, of Wausa, Mrs. David Mord, of Orient, S.D., John of Randolph, Seth, of Oakland, Mrs. Lester Greno, of Magnet, Earl of Wausa, and Mrs. Leo Fredericks, of Randolph, two children have preceded their father in death, Mrs. Ed Fager in 1920 and Alfred in 1922. Besides the immediate family are 5 grandchildren, one brother and one sister in LaPorte, Indiana. The gazette joins with friends of the bereaved in extending sincere sympathy at the death of their husband and father. Peace be to his memory!
