FRED AND LEOLA [MILLER] AYERS
Fred Ayers was born April 23, 1884, to John and Almie Ayers at their
homestead three miles south and one-half east of Verdigre, Nebraska.
He attended grade school at District 16. His parents retired from
the farm and moved to Creighton when Fred was 12 years old. He
attended Creighton High School and later enrolled at Boyle’s College
in Omaha. Fred worked in a lumberyard in Creighton for a short time
and then moved to the farm 2 ¾ miles northwest of Winnetoon,
Nebraska.
He married Leola Miller June 6, 1917, at Gretna, Nebraska. Father
Wallace was the officiant.

Leola was the daughter of Howard and Josephine Miller and was born
January 7, 1891, at Valley, Nebraska. She went to school at
Winnetoon and Creighton. After their marriage, they resided on the
farm until 1964 when they retired and moved to Winnetoon to spend
their remaining years. They had six children: Howard, Laura, Benita,
Edward, Fred, and Willard.
Fred passed away December 5, 1970, at the age of 86 and Leola died
October 14, 1978, at 87 years.
