FRANK BARTOS

Frank Bartos was born November 8, 1893, at Schuyler, Nebraska, the sixth of seven children. He finished his 8th grade education at Knoxville School District No. 37 where, in later years, all of his children completed their elementary education.

Frank and his brothers Joseph and James were left to farm when their parents moved to Clarkson in 1917.

On November 19, 1919, Frank Bartos and Anna Kreycik, who was born June 10, 1885, were married at Pierce, Nebraska. They spent all their married life on the same farm - first living in a three-room house which was eventually enlarged in anticipation of raising a family. All the out-buildings had to be built which took many hours of labor. Frank and Anna continued their farming operation until Anna’s death in 1967. For many years he was well known for marketing choice fat cattle in Sioux City, Omaha, and Chicago Livestock Markets.

In the 1920s when the road was being constructed past their farm, many horse traders and even a few gypsy caravans would stop in to water their horses and ask for any surplus garden produce or poultry they might have. The Bartos family always obliged with something to keep peace with the travelers. Nothing had ever been lost to thievery because of their generosity.

Anna’s specialties were her lovely flowers and beautiful yard, which made her very proud.

Frank Bartos passed away in November of 1974.

Their three children are Rosalie (Mrs. Jerry Masek) of Spencer, Nebraska and Frank G. and Emil L of Verdigre. Each has raised a family.

Jerry and Rosalie Masek have two daughters - Annella and Donita.

Frank G. and Alma (Kotrous) Bartos have seven children - Judith, Kenneth, Francine, Rodney, Bruce, Frank E., and Rick.

Emil and Leanore (Brookhouser) Bartos have ten children - Neva, Keith, Nancy, Billy, Bobby, Janice, Emily, Johnny, June, and Julie.
