ALBERT [JIM] BOELTER

Albert Arlee Boelter, son of Arthur and Hattie (Butterfield) Boelter, was born October 3, 1908, on the home place located in the Walnut Grove Township southwest of Verdigre. He was the second of five children, having two sisters Myrtle and Evelyn and two brothers Ernest and Wayne.

In 1936 he married Fern Parks of Page. They lived on several farms in the Venus and Walnut communities, and in 1970, bought the family farmstead from his brother Ernest. They resided there until his death April 11, 1984. Fern moved to O’Neill shortly after.

Albert and Fern had four sons: Vernon, Henry, Merle, and Albert Lee. Henry and Albert Lee died in infancy.

Albert, Vernon, and Merle all played baseball for many years.

Vernon was called to serve his country in 1956 and was discharged in 1958. He married Carolyn Beaudette of Wausa in 1959. They lived on the Dale Waring farm near Middle Branch until January of 1963 when he was killed in a tractor accident. Carolyn later remarried and now lives in Norfolk.

Albert, Vernon, Henry, and Albert Lee are all buried at Grimton Cemetery.

Merle and Mary Sucha were married in 1959 and lived on several farms until 1972 when Merle began working in Verdigre for the county. They moved to Verdigre shortly thereafter and Merle became the town cop. Then, in 1975, due to his father’s failing health, he returned to farming. He quit farming in 1984 and they now reside in Verdigre. Merle and Mary have six children. Wade lives in Verdigre and farms. Teresa married Garry Nielsen and they have two children, Derek and Adele, and live east of Niobrara. Laurie married Clement Wagner of Winnetoon and lives east of Verdigre. They also have two children, Jesse Anne and Joshua. Julie married Rory Liska of Niobrara and they live north of Verdigre. All are engaged in farming. Still at home and attending high school are Jean and Christine.
