ANDREW AND SUSAN [DICK] CAULFIELD
Andrew and Susan (Dick) Caulfield journeyed from Ireland to Chicago,
Illinois, in the 1850s. They lived there about a year, then moved to
Galena, Illinois. Their journey brought them to Elk Point, South
Dakota, and finally to Knox County in the fall of 1881. They
homesteaded eight miles southwest of Verdigre (Southeast Quarter of
Section 20, Township 30 North, Range 7 West). Andrew had studied
medicine, and he and Dr. William Hazen were the first medical
doctors in Knox County.
