FRANK AND KRISTINA [FRANK] CHOCHOLOUSEK
Frank Chocholousek was born August 24, 1883, in Sedlcony, Bohemia,
to Anton Chocholousek and Anna Herma Chocholousek. In 1886 Frank,
along with his parents, brothers Joe and Bosh, and sister Marv,
immigrated to the United States. On November 23, 1908, Frank married
Kristina Frank at Center, Nebraska, and they settled in the Stoney
Butte area west of Verdigre where they farmed for some time. They
spent one year in Louisiana before moving to the Village of Verdigre
where Frank worked on the W.P.A., for the railroad, the Knox County
bridge crew, as a farm laborer for Fritz Caine and then for Frank
and Bill Svoboda at Svoboda's Hardware. Frank and Kristina had seven
children, a son who died in infancy, and sons Emil, Edwin and Anton,
and daughters Bertha, Rose and Marcella. Kristine died in 1954 and
Frank in 1962.
Emil Chocholousek was born January 27, 1914. He graduated from the
Verdigre High School after which he moved to St. Louis, Missouri,
where he worked at a bakery for his uncle, Alois Langers. After this
Emil spent 35 years working for Proctor and Gamble in St. Louis. On
September 3, 1938, he married Edna Schreiber and their children are
Larry and Roger Chocholousek of St. Louis. Grandchildren are Wendy
and Tracy, Larry's daughters, and Terri , daughter of Roger. Emil
died October 30, 1976.
Edwin F. Chocholousek was born May 15, 1922, and attended the
Verdigre Public School. He was a member of the United States Navy
and during his military service he contracted multiple sclerosis
which eventually lead to his death in 1965. Edwin is survived by his
wife, the former Evelyn Benson of Jacksonville, Florida, whom he
married in 1952.
Rose Chocholousek was born October 6, 1918, and was raised and
educated in Verdigre. She worked briefly in St. Louis, Missouri, and
on January 25, 1939, married Otto Sokol of Verdigre. They moved to
Iowa where Otto had employment. I n 1941 they returned to Nebraska
and farmed ii Madison County for 21 years. In 1963 Rose and Otto
moved to Norfolk, Nebraska, where they presently reside. Otto was
employed for years at the Norfolk Regional Center and Rose is
retired after 19 years with Sherwood Medical „ Their son Jerry
married Janice Goodman of Newman Grove, and they have two sons,
Scott and Kevin. Rose and Otto's daughter Judy married John Goswick
and they live at Ft. Collins, Colorado, where Judy works as a
registered nurse. Judy and John have a daughter, Michelle.
Marcella Chocholousek was born June 25, 1929. After high school she
attended Wayne State Teachers' College and taught school in the
Verdigre area. On July 14, 1947, Marcella married Harold Alder of
Verdigre. Harold worked for two years for Henry Chalupnik at the
Chevrolet Garage as a mechanic, for Smith Construction for 20 years
and for the Knox County road crew for 13 years. Marcella was head
cook at the Verdigre Public School for 16 years and is presently
head cook at the Alpine Village Nursing Home. Their children are
Beverly, who was married to Gene Stone, and their sons are Ronald
and Patrick; Kenneth, who married Vicki Kinnison, and their children
are Kristine, Bryan and Steve; Patricia is married to Kieth Stoural
and their sons are Douglas and Scott; Janet married Roger Frank and
their children are Gina and Casey; Charles married Patricia Marshall
and their children are Marsha, Greg, and Michelle; and Donna, who is
married to David Frank.
Bertha Chocholousek was born July 9, 1911, and lived at Verdigre
until her graduation from high school. She attended Wayne State
Teachers' College and taught school at the Tichy School northeast of
Verdigre. In 1932 Bertha moved to St. Louis, Missouri, where she
worked as a domestic in the home of a judge. She renewed here
teaching certificate and again taught school in Missouri. There she
married Alvin Poeling in 1948 and they had a son, William. On
October 23, 1973, William married Linda and their children are
Douglas and Jason, who all live at Bethalto, Illinois. Bertha died
in 1963.
