JOSEPH AND ANNA [MARSHALL] DRYAK
Joseph Dryak was born March 15, 1842, in Czechoslovakia. He
immigrated to the United States as a young man. It is believed he
spent some time in Chicago where he played a flute - at least on a
part-time basis. The Marshalls from the Knox County area heard him
play and persuaded him to come to Nebraska to play in their band.
Joseph probably homesteaded (undocumented) farm land in the
Pischelville area. He was married to Anna Marshall. Her birth date
was June 26, 1846. The couple raised a large family - two daughters
died in infancy. Those surviving were: Charles (1873-1948); Julius,
died at the age of 12 years and 6 months in an accident when a hole
he was digging collapsed, suffocating him; Max (1875-1951; Gust
(1876-1962); Otto, moved to Stewartsville, Missouri, and his date of
birth and death is unknown; Hugo (1882-1972); Edward, never married,
(1883-1959); Albin, never married, (1887-1953); and Malada suffered
a mental handicap, (1889-1919).
Joseph and Anna farmed in the Pischelville area for the rest of
their lives. Anna preceded her husband in death in 1907; Joseph died
April 27, 1921.
