FRANK J. AND ROSY [VECERA] HANZLIK

Frank J. Hanzlik was born in Bohemia on April 15, 1890. As a young
man he left his native land, arriving in the United States of
America in 1909. He was listed on his naturalization papers as a
“subject of Austria,” and was the only member of his immediate
family to come to the United States. (Emil Hanzlik of Verdel, now
deceased, was a distant cousin.)
On January 28, 1913, Frank J. married rosy Vecera who was born in
Verdigre. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Vecera, Sr., moved to
Verdigre from Lodgepole, Nebraska, arriving the day before she was
born. (Refer to Vecera history.)
Frank and Rosy Hanzlik were the parents of five sons and one
daughter. Now deceased are sons Frank, Jr., Joseph and Vaclav, and
their daughter, Marie Hanzlik Carlson. Surviving sons are John of
Madison and Charles of Omaha.
The Hanzlik family moved from the Verdigre area to Creighton in
1945. Frank Hanzlik had been a farmer but in 1948 he took up
carpentry. He died January 26, 1964. Rosy moved to the Wisner Manor
at Wisner, Nebraska, in 1978 and lived there until her death in July
of 1985.
