EDWARD AND MARGARET [WOODS] HAVLICEK
Edward Havlicek is the son of Charley and Josie Havlicek. He was
born on living. Ed attended country school and later went
to high school at Verdigre, graduating with the class of 1942.
Farming became his livelihood.
Edward met Margaret Woods, the daughter of Charles and Edna Woods of
Palmer, Nebraska. Her parents had lived on various farms around the
area when Margaret was a child. They were married on November 16,
1952, and raised ten children on the farmstead his grandfather, John
Havlicek, originally homesteaded.
Their children are: Rebecca, Barbara, Ellen, David, Curtis, John,
Aimie, Letha, Billy, and Peggy.
Rebecca graduated in 1972 from Verdigre Public School. She was a
Kolach Queen candidate in 1972 and 1973 and was first runner-up both
years. She married Leonard Jelinek and they farm southwest of
Verdigre. Their children are Melanie, Michael, and Diane.

Barbara is a 1974 Verdigre high School graduate. She was the
Verdigre Kolach Queen in 1974. She married David Bauer and they live
in the former telephone office in Verdigre. Their four children are:
Sara, Hollie, David, and Ivan.
Ellen was a 1975 graduate of Verdigre High School. She ran for
Kolach Queen in 1975 and placed first runner-up. She is married to
Thomas Brewer and they have two children, Thomas and Tina. They
reside at South Sioux City, Nebraska. Ellen is employed at Aalfs
Manufacturing Company in Sioux City.
David, a 1977 Verdigre High School graduate, married Rhonda Hart and
they have three daughters, twins Carny and Gina, and Karla. He works
at the steel foundry at Sioux City, and they live near Moville,
Iowa.
Curtis, a 1979 Verdigre school graduate, lives in Moville, Iowa,
with his wife, Leneah (Morgan) and their family, Corey and Morgan.
Curtis works at the steel foundry at Sioux City.
John, who is employed on the Leonard Jelinek farm, graduated from
high school in Verdigre in 1984. He and Bernadine Obershaw of
Bloomfield have announced their plans for a May 1987 wedding.
Following high school graduation in 1986, Aimee cared for her aunt,
Ruth Siroky, in August and September following surgery. Aimie is
presently employed at the Curt Havlicek home taking care of their
children.
Letha will graduate from Verdigre in the centennial year - 1987. She
plans to go on to secretarial school. Letha was the 1986 Verdigre
Kolach Queen.
Billy is a freshman at Verdigre High School and Peggy is a seventh
grader.
Margaret Havlicek died in April of 1982 due to complications
following gall bladder surgery.
The Havlicek homestead is still owned by the Havlicek family and was
honored by Ak-Sar-Ben in 1983 for being in the family over 100
years.
