Marvin Herbert is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis R. Herbert, who
farmed west of Verdigre before moving to town in 1966. Their other
children are Betty Lou, deceased in 1971, and Mary Ann (Mrs. Willard
Hostmann).
Marvin was born living, at Verdigre. He grew up on a farm
west of town and attended a rural school at Jelen and then came to
Verdigre High School. He served in the Korean War from 1952 to 1954.
He received a private pilot’s license in 1950 and is still an active
pilot. He is now serving in his fifteenth year on the Verdigre
school board. He is also a member of the American Legion and the
Verdigre Improvement Club.
On February 6, 1955, Marvin married Lola Kremeier of Winnetoon,
Nebraska, at Christ Lutheran Church in rural Creighton. The family
is still active in this church. Daughter LaDonna serves as church
organist. Lola has been a Sunday school teacher and Superintendent
of Sunday School at the church for many years.
The couple, who had four children, lived on their farm 2 ¼ miles
north of Winnetoon as crop and livestock farmers until they moved
into Verdigre in the spring of 1980. Their son Louis now lives on
the family farm. Marvin farms and is owner of his parents’ farm west
of town and also farms the family farm near Winnetoon. He assists
his son Louis at Herbert Feed and Grain Elevator in Verdigre.
Lola has been employed at Alpine Village Nursing Home in the Dietary
Department since August of 1983 with a state certified certificate
as a Food Service Supervisor for nursing homes and schools.

1975, Roberta married Henry Ebel. They live east of Verdigre on a
