Joe Holecek wa born in 1856 (or 1857) in Bohemia. He started the Sparta Store sometime before 1900 on the Southeast Quarter of the Southeast Quarter of Section 14, Township 31 North, Range 6 West of the 6th P.M.. In 1911 he sold the store to Joe Liska. Sometime between 1920 and 1925 Joe Liska moved the store from the north side of the draw to the south side where it presently sits. They moved it with a tree stump puller. The very north part of the store (the lean to) is the original spring Sparta Store built by Joe Holecek. Joe Holecek was buried in the Niobrara cemetery.

Mary married Emil Mudra and they lived in Omaha where they died and were buried. Anna, born in 1872, married John Liska and they homesteaded the land where Chris Larsen lives now. Anna and John had five children: John, Jr., Anna, Charley, Jerry, and Martha. Mr. and Mrs. John Liska are buried in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Verdigre.

Vac Holecek was born around 1880 and when he grew to manhood he traveled around the country. Eventually he homesteaded on a ranch near Ekalaka, Montana (in the 1920s). He passed away in Montana, date unknown.
Anton Holecek was born January 18, 1883.
