ROGER AND JULIE JACOBSON

The Roger Jacobson family moved to Verdigre, Nebraska, August 15, 1981, from Huron, South Dakota. Roger, “Jake,” was hired as general manager of the Verdigre Farmers’ Co-op after serving as interim manager since April 1, 1981.

Originally from Lake Park, Minnesota, his ancestors were of Norwegian and Swedish descent. Jake and Julie were married in Lake Park December 19, 1964.

Since moving to Verdigre, Jake, who was born September 22, 1945, has been an active member of the Verdigre Improvement Club, serving as president and currently as secretary. He was one of the charter members of the active Lions Club. Supporting the girls’ athletic teams and golf fill his spare time.

Julie, born living, and children ran “Jake’s Recreation Center” in 1982-83 in the Alvin Kotrous building. Julie was employed by Locker Lounge as a waitress for the next two years and she has been employed at Sonder’s Sundries since April, 1985. She is a member of the Chit Chat Extension Club and her spare time is filled with supporting the girls’ athletic teams and golf. She has been involved in the Centennial activities and designed the Centennial quilt.

They have four children: Kristi, Heidi, Betsi, and Jeff.

Kristi Kay was born living, and graduated from Verdigre High School in 1983. She was a member of the 1983 VHS Sub-District Basketball Team Champs. She is currently a senior at Wayne State College, majoring in secondary education and counseling.

Heidi Ann was born living, and is currently a senior at Verdigre High School, graduating in 1987. Heidi has been active in girls’ volleyball, basketball, and track. She has received many honors and the VHS record book will contain Heidi’s name in several categories. Hoping to play college basketball, she has not signed with a college until the basketball season is over. Honors bestowed upon her by fellow students included 1986 Athlete of the Year and 1986 Homecoming Queen.

Betsi Lynn, who is currently a sophomore at Verdigre High School, was born living. She is also active in volleyball, basketball and track.

Jeffrey John, born living, is a fifth grader at Verdigre Public School. Jeff will be remembered for his commitment to the army at a young age.

Verdigre has become home to the Jacobsons because of the many special friends who also call Verdigre home.
