EMIL J. AND ELEANORA [PAVLIK] JEDLICKA

Emil J. Jedlicka was born February 8, 1879, to Vaclav and Marie Kalal Jedlicka in a log house 1 ½ miles southeast of Verdigre. As a boy he first attended school ½ mile east of Verdigre, then District 55 near the mill, and finally the new grade school in Verdigre. He then worked on his father’s farm until October 30, 1900, when he married Eleanora Pavlik.

Eleanora was the daughter of Vaclav and Katherine Stoural Pavlik. She was born April 29, 1882, in a log house on their farm eight miles west of Verdigre, near the Verdigre North Branch Creek in Jefferson Township. In order to attend school ½ mile east of Verdigre, she stayed with her grandparents, the Albert Stourals. Later she attended Jelen School No. 27. She completed the seventh grade in Creighton while working for room and board for a local family. She completed the eighth grade in Verdigre.

The couple first lived with his widowed father and it was there in the log cabin that (Mary) Eldiva Pavlik, their daughter, was born on October 30, 1901.

On March 6, 1902, the family moved to a farm 2 ½ miles southeast of Verdigre. A son, Vacie, was born here but died 14 days later (October 12, 1902) of convulsions.

On November 4, 1949, after a life-time of farming, they moved into Verdigre. Emil spent his retirement years reading and gardening.

After her husband’s death on September 5, 1962, Mrs. Jedlicka continued to ply her hobbies - art, music, and fancy work. She received many awards at the Knox County Fair for her needle-and-crochet work. Mrs. Jedlicka died January 15, 1973.
