JOSEPH JELINEK, SR.

Joseph Jelinek, Sr , was born in 1830 After his wife died, he and his three children came to the U. S. and settled in Chicago in 1868. The children were Anna born December 24, 1857' married Josef Parez. and she passed away on January 2, 1924 Frank - no information available; and Joseph Jr., - born December 8, 1862. married Anna Skalicky on August 4 1889, died October 20, 1939.

Later he moved to Cherokee County. Iowa, to farm He stayed here until he was run out by the grasshoppers. Joseph then came to Verdigre and homesteaded land where the Jelen Cemetery is now located. He later lived with his son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Anna, until his death in 1905. His body was laid to rest on land he homesteaded in the Jelen Cemetery northwest of Verdigre.
