MATHIAS AND LUDMILA JIRACEK

The family of Mathias (Matej) Jiracek came to this country about 1886„ Mathias brought his wife Ludmila and children Vac, Albert, Frances, Joseph, and Antonia. Three other children had died in infancy.

The family homesteaded about ten miles southwest of the 'future site of Verdigre, probably in the Southwest Quarter of Section 8 in Jefferson Township where the parents lived until about 1909.

Mathias, born in Bohemia in 1843, married Ludmila Smiskova in 1867. He died on September 30, 1919.

Ludmila was born at Kosova Hora, in the district of Sedlcany, and died August4, 1922. She was buried beside her husband in the Bohemian National Cemetery at Jelen.

The eldest of the children who lived was Vac, Albert was born September 23, 1874, and died April 29, 1943. He married Albina Pavlik on April 18, 1897. Frances was born December 4, 1877, and died December 6, 1975. She married Vac Tikalsky April 18, 1897. Joseph, born February 16, 1879, married Milada Pavlik May 25, 1902, and died July 5, 1965. Antonia, born June 2, 1883, married Frank B. Pavlik May 25, 1902 ( in a double wedding with her brother Joseph and her husband's cousin), and died February 21, 1972.
