EMIL AND ELIZABETH [HOLAN] KACER

Emil Kacer was born December 24, 1868, in Chicago, Illinois. His parents were Frank and Mary (Sladek) Kacer. Emil had one brother Fred and three sisters, Mary Matous, Jennie Pac and Wenceslava, Mrs. Joseph Wirth.

Emil spent his boyhood days in Chicago. When he was 14 years of age, he came to Nebraska to live with his sister, Wenceslava, and family for four years while attending school. When he was 18 years old, his parents bought him a 240 acre farm in the Pischelville community. Emil built a home and other buildings and began farming.

On March 30, 1889, he married Elizabeth Holan. She was born in the village of Velkyosek in Bohemia on November 20, 1871. She was the daughter of Matej and Mary Pokorny Holan. She had one brother, Matej, Jr., and two sisters, Anna, Mrs. Anton Tichy and Marie, Mrs. Vac Uhlir.

Emil and Elizabeth had two children: Mollie was born February 22, 1890, and Edward was born April 5, 1898. Together they toiled on the farm until 1905. Due to Emil’s poor health, they rented the farm and moved to Niobrara.

Mollie married Richard H. Tichy on September 10, 1913, and they were the parents of three children: Wilma, Willard, and Norma.

Edward served in the U. S. Navy during WWI. Later he moved to Illinois and married Mildred Rickguar and they had two children: Laura and Ed, Jr.

Emil and Elizabeth observed their 50th Wedding Anniversary on March 30, 1939. Emil died August 23, 1939, and Elizabeth died August 9, 1956. Both are buried in L’Eau Qui Court Cemetery at Niobrara, Nebraska.

Richard Tichy, son of Albert and Mary Tichy, was born February 28, 1886, in Sparta Township, south of Niobrara. He had two brothers, Kvida and Frank and one half-sister, Mary Conklin. Several children in the famil ydied of diphtheria.

Richard and Mollie made their home on a farm south of Niobrara. They worked faithfully, enduring many hardships, but at the same time enjoying the pleasures of a happy and successful family life. In 1948 they left the farm for their retirement in Niobrara. Richard served many years in township offices and on the school board. Both were fifty-year members of the ZCBJ Lodge in Niobrara. Mollie was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. They had three children: Wilma (Mrs. Charles Jerman), Willard, and Norma (Mrs. Joe Bicek).

Richard died March 9, 1960; Mollie died November 23, 1971. Both are buried in the L’Eau Qui Court Cemetery in Niobrara.

Emil and Elizabeth Kacer have five grandchildren: Mrs. Charles (Wilma) Jerman, Willard Tichy, Mrs. Joe (Norma) Bicek; Edward Kacer and Laura Freeman Shue. They have nine great-grandchildren: Donna Jerman Sage, Janet Jerman Harms, Jeannie Tichy Tinkham, Joan Tichy Marshall, Richard Tichy, Gerald Tichy, Julie Tichy Trenhaile, Beverly Bicek Linhardt, and Judy Freeman. There are 15 great-great-grandchildren: Harlan, Mark, Perry, and Eric Sage; Tracy and Sara Harms; Brian and Brent Tinkham; Michelle, Joe, and Matt Marshall; Wendi, Mari, Jennifer, and Joe Linhardt. Hayden E. Sage is their great-great-great-grandchild.
