FRANK AND MARJORIE KMENT

In May of 1955 Frank and Marjorie Kment and their four children, Robert, Mary, Joan, and Beverly, arrived in Verdigre to open the Kment Hardware which was first located in the present legion building. Later the store was moved to the building just north of the hotel. Frank started with plumbing and heating and later expanded his business to include wiring and feed sales. Marj worked as a registered nurse at the Creighton hospital and part time in the store.

In 1957 Marj became ill with multiple sclerosis. She quit her job in the hospital and became a patient there. Mrs. Joe Vecera was hired to care for Marj and help with the household chores. On January 3, 1960, while delivering feed, Frank suffered a massive heart attack. Following Frank’s death Marj sold the store.
