JACOB AND MARIE [MARHOUN] KOLAR
Jacob F. Kolar was born in Bohemia in 1848, Hlubucky County, in the
village of Budejovicky.
In 1868 he was drafted into the army where he served for three
years.
In 1874 he was married to Marie Marhoun. In the same year they
emigrated to the United States and came to live with his sister,
Kate Prokes, in St. Louis, Missouri. After a short stay in Missouri,
they moved to Illinois to live with his brother, John Kolar, on a
farm. Here they made their home for five years.
In 1879 they came to Knox County, Nebraska, to live on a farm
southwest of Verdigre, later known as the Anton Somer farm. Here
they lived for 11 years.
In the year 1890 they sold the farm, came to Verdigre, and went into
partnership in a lumberyard. He later sold his interest in the
business to his partner and then he bought a farm near Niobrara. In
1902 he sold the farm and they moved to Verdigre to make their home
in retirement.
In 1914 his wife Marie became ill and submitted to surgery, but
after an illness of two months she passed on to the Great Beyond.
She was survived by four daughters: Mrs. Joe (Antonia) Kocina, Mrs.
A. M. (Mary) McNutt, Mrs. John L. (Pauline) Vakoc, Mrs. Edw. L. (Sidonia)
Kocina, and one son Emil Kolar.
After several years he married Mrs. Marie Juracek. In 1932 she
became seriously ill and passed away July 1st, leaving seven adult
children to mourn her passing. He gave up housekeeping and lived
with his grandson, Leonard Kocina, in Verdigre. After a few months
here, he went to live with his daughter, Mrs. Joseph F. Kocina, near
Niobrara where he passed away on November 2, 1934.
He was one of the founders of the Z.C.B.J. Lodge in Verdigre and
several other towns and the Hillcrest Cemetery and he participated
in several other activities.
