EMIL L. AND CHARLOTTE [MARSHALL] KREYCIK
Emil Louis Kreycik, son of Matej and Rosalie Brtek Kreycik, was born
March 10, 1882, in a log house on the family homestead at
Pischelville, Nebraska. Here with his five brothers and two sisters
he grew to manhood. His young days were spent herding cattle on the
prairies. He attended School District No. 7, the same school that
his sons and grandchildren would also attend.
Emil had a great love of music and at an early age he played in the
Kreycik Brass Band with his father and brothers. Later he organized
the Pischelville Brass Band and in this he played the clarinet. The
band traveled great distances by horse and buggy to play for dances
and celebrations. Towns as far as Gregory, South Dakota, enjoyed
their music. Playing in this band were Emil, John and Steve Kreycik,
Anton Pischel, Tom Kovanda, George Wirth, and George Tuch. Emil had
mastered other musical instruments and gave lessons to neighbors and
friends.
Emil held offices on the School Board and Western Township Board and
was a life-time member of the ZCBJ Lodge at Pischelville.
On November 5, 1919, he was united in marriage to Charlotte Irene
Marshall. Three sons were born to them: Archie, Emil, and Marvin.
They farmed the family homestead until 1950 when they built a new
home in Verdigre.
Emil passed away on June 2, 1971, at his home. He was laid to rest
in the Pischelville National Cemetery.
Their sons all married and established homes of their own.
Archie married Irene Johnson of Verdigre and they made their home
near Niobrara. Two daughters were born to them: Janice (Mrs. Kenneth
Liska of Wayne, Nebraska) and Karen (Mrs. Roger Kotrous of
Niobrara).
Son Emil married Rita Zoubek of Verdel; their home is in Western
Township. One daughter, Susan (Mrs. Robert Wingert of Osmond) was
born to them.
Their youngest son, Marvin, married Winona Hale of Arlee, Montana.
They continued to farm the homestead and still live in the house
Emil built in 1914. Two daughters were born to them: Connie (Mrs.
Dean Vesely) and Barbara (Mrs. Richard Parsley).
Twelve grandchildren have now joined the family: Christina and
Jessica Pavlik; Tara Parsley; Colby and Scott Vesely; Jason, Eric,
and Kimberley Liska; Rodney and Rochelle Kotrous and Jared and Kari
Wingert.
