EDWARD L. AND ELDIVA [PAVLIK] MARSHALL

Edward L. Marshall was born May 26, 1884, to Louis and Frances Bartak Marshall. He grew to manhood in the times of prairie fires, grasshoppers, drought, floods, and many other problems of the times.

In 1901-1902 Edward attended Verdigre Public School and also learned harness and shoe repair from his grandfather, John Bartak. He, and all of his family, played the violin. The Marshall family had a string orchestra.

In 1908 Louis Marshall, Sr., purchased a 160 acre farm from L. Brich, just east of his farm. Edward met a girl from the Vaclav Pavlik family, another musical family who had a brass band.

Edward L. Marshall and Eldiva Pavlik, born June 29, 1888, were married on November 1, 1910, by Justice of the Peace John L. Pavlik at the home of her parents, Vaclav and Katherine Stoural Pavlik.

They moved to their farm in the Stoney Butte community and resided there for 55 years. In 1965 they sold their farm to Marlin Tusha and moved to Verdigre.

At the age of 92, Edward L. Marshall died on June 28, 1976, at the Lundberg Memorial Hospital, Creighton, Nebraska. He is buried in the Riverside Cemetery, Verdigre.

Eldiva Marshall passed away at Alpine Village in Verdigre on February 2, 1984, at the age of 95 years. She is buried beside her husband.

Four children were born to Edward and Eldiva Marshall: Ellen (living), Frank (living), James (living), and Darlene (living).

Ellen Marshall was married June 29, 1936, to Edward Vokner who was born August 29, 1907. He died June 29, 1968, following a tragic tractor accident. Two children were born to them: Patricia Ann (living) and Gary Edward (living). Patricia Ann Vokner married Fred D. Ruzicka (born living) on October 29, 1967, in the Methodist Church in Verdigre. Tamara Lynn was born to them living. Gary Edward Vokner married Debbie Jane Davidson on June 12, 1977. She was born living. They have one child, Sheena Jean, born living.

Frank E. Marshall married Marcella Novacek on January 4, 1943. She was born living, to William and Tillie Ruzicka Novacek. Marcella passed away on January 24, 1970. Three children were born to Frank and Marcella: Gene, Lynette, and Duane. Gene Marshall was born living, and married Clara Schiltmeyer (living) on August 12, 1972. Their two children are Michelle, living, and Kevin, born living. Lynette Marshall was born living, and married George Crosley, born living, on February 7, 1975. There are two children: Karlyn Sue, born living, and Brandy, born living. Duane Marshall, born living, married Virginia Anderson on August 21, 1985. On June 22, 1974, Frank Marshall married Evelyn Sonder Fosterman whose birthdate is living.

James I. Marshall was born living. On January 26, 1946, he married Ruth Nookes (living) at Vallejo, California. Three children were born to them: Davy, Nena, and Eldiva. Davy John Marshall, born living, married Melba Golightly (living) on November 20, 1961. L Their seven children are: Preston - living; Johnathan - living; Rebecca - living: Nathan - living; Crystal - living; Rachel - living; and Tara - living. Nena Lee Marshall, who was born living, married Glen Carter on June 23, 1969. Their four children are: Tina - living; Brian - living; Matthew - living; and Adam - living. Eldiva Pearl Marshall, youngest child of James and Ruth, was born living.

Enlisting in 1941, James had a 21 year career in the U. S. Navy. He experienced all but the first eight days of World War II, all of the Korean War, and the first part of the Vietnam War. Then for 21 years he worked for the City of Richmond, California, as a Stationary Engineer. They moved to Orem, Utah, in 1984. His wife is a native of Park City, Utah, so they are close to her relatives and 750 miles closer to James’ family.

Darlene Marshall was born living, and on February 4, 1948, she married Frank Valik (living). Their four children are: Robert, Cheryl, Lynda, and Susan. Robert was born living, and on November 3, 1973, married Ann Haniaham. Their three children are: Brian - living, Kevin - living, Timothy - living. Cheryl Lynn Valik, who was born living, married Eric Zvick on August 9, 1980. Lynda Valik was born living, and married Steven Seaberg on March 4, 1981. They have one child, Kelly Lynn - living. Susan Darlene was born living.
