JAMES AND LYNETTE [VITERNA] MLADY

James Mlady was born living, at Plainview, Nebraska, to Leo and Elsie Mlady. During his childhood, he received his education at Verdigre Public Schools and graduated in May of 1969.

Lynette Viterna was born to Joseph and Arvilla Viterna on living, at Bloomfield, Nebraska. She attended school at District 27 Cottonwood Row through the eighth grade and then went to Verdigre where she graduated from Verdigre Public School in 1969. James and Lynette were married May 24, 1969, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Verdigre. To this union were born three children: Brian James, born living; Bradley Leo, born living; and Sharla Jean, born living.

After they were married, James and Lynette lived in Laurel, Nebraska, where Lynette worked in a café and James drove a milk truck for AMPI. After Lynette’s father, Joseph Viterna, Jr., died, they moved back to Verdigre to help her mother, Arvilla, on the farm. During this time, James worked part time for AMPI, the Verdigre Livestock Market, and Sonder Well Co. Lynette worked part time at the sale barn café.

In October of 1969, James and Lynette moved to the John Jenkinson farm located in Section 30 of Bohemia Township. There they lived until November of 1972 when they moved to their present home eight miles northwest of Verdigre located in the Southwest Quarter of Section 33 of Bohemia Township. This is the home place where Lynette grew up.

Lynette worked at Alpine Village from April 1, 1972, until January 1, 1973. Then she returned in the winter of 1974 and worked for three months.

In 1979, James and Lynette purchased the 160-acre farm where they now have farrow-feeder pig and cow-calf operations. They now farm a total of 1800 acres in alfalfa, corn, oats, forage, hay, and pasture.

In 1980 James and Lynette received the Knox County Feeder Pig Award and then the State Feeder Pig Award in 1984.

James, Lynette, and family are involved members of the catholic church, 4-H, FFA, and various other community organizations. Presently James is serving as Bohemia Township Treasurer and was recently on the Verdigre Co-op Board.

Lynette is a member of the Knox County 4-H Council and the Helping Hand Extension Club.
