MARTIN AND ANNA [CIFERA] MUDRA
Martin Mudra and Anna Cifera were married in Bohemia,
Czechoslovakia, and came to America with their seven children. A
baby was stillborn during the voyage and buried at sea. Martin and
family farmed in the Knoxville area and members of the family
continued to farm there after Anna, who was born September 14, 1841,
had died on February 14, 1903. Anna is buried in the Pischelville
Cemetery beside her eight-year-old daughter, Molly, who died in
1894.
Anna and Martin had seven children: Joseph, John, Emil, Thomas,
Emma, Anna, and Molly.
Little is known about Joseph except that he lived at one time in
Wyoming.
John married and lived in Lewis, Iowa. He owned and operated a
jewelry store and had six daughters: Nellie, Viola, Letha, Ruby,
Annabelle, and Mable. No member of this family is living.
Emil married Mary Holecek and had six children: Rosie (Alex Belsky),
Anna (Charles Gregatis), Emma (August Block), Albina (Tony Rezakis),
Sylvia (Ed Cherny), and Rudolph (Myrtle Hopkins). Sylvia is the only
living member of the family.

Thomas married Mary Peterka and had four children: Jerry, Vincent,
Jimmy, and Molly (Fred Svatos).
Emma married Frank J. Pavlik II in 1899 and had two children: Edwin
D. (Slim) and Frank James III. Emma, widowed in 1908, married Joseph
Losina in 1914 and had two daughters, Elsie Mae and a baby girl who
died in infancy.
Anna married Frank J. Sladek in 1901 and had three children: Frank
L., who died in 1920 from the flu he contracted while attended the
University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Lillian who married Stanley
Wagner in 1934, and Agnes who married Paul Stoural in 1928.
Molly died at age 8.
After Anna’s death, the records at the Register of Deeds Office
suggest Martin Mudra put his affairs in order and married Katerine
Duchoslovy in late 1903 or early 1904. Katerine and her son Jerry
lived in Omaha; and after remarrying, Martin and his new bride lived
in Bohemia at No. 619 in the Mauth District of Zbirov. Martin owned
the lots that now house the Legion building, the place next to it,
and the Jedlicka’s westside building.
