THE NIKL FAMILY

Frantisek Nikl, the first of the Nikl line that is recorded, was born in Moravia in 1827. He married Terezia Svoboda in 1857. She was born in Bohemia October 15, 1825. (according to her tombstone, this date is probably incorrect, given the ages of her children.) They had four children: Joseph, John, Amelia, and Mary. Joseph was born in Moravia in 1860. John was born September 26, 1862, in Moravia. Amelia was born in 1872 and Mary in 1876. The family came to the United States in 1881 and located first in Saunders County, Nebraska. Two years later they moved to Holt County where they homesteaded. Four years later they purchased a farm in Knox County. They migrated from or near the town of Brno, which was then Moravia and is now part of Czechoslovakia.

Frantisek died August 28, 1919, and Terezia died August 8, 1915.

Details on the children follow.

Joseph married Marie Jelen. They had two daughters, Marie and Silvia, and a baby who died in infancy. Later in life he was separated from his wife. She moved to California and he moved back to Czechoslovakia. Joseph died September 9, 1944 in Brno.

[pg 346 PHOTO John and Mary Nikl and Millie]

John Nikl married Mary Polecek June 17, 1892. To this marriage were born three children: Millie on April 22, 1893; William, February 20, 1897; and Otto, June 28, 1900. William and Millie are still living. Otto died in 1930 in Norfolk, Nebraska. John died December 26, 1902.

Amelia married John Sedivy and they had seven children. She died in 1954.

Mary married Vaclav Novak and they had four children: two died in infancy. She died in 1938.

Because John Nikl produced the only male child to pass on the family name, this will suffice to finish this sketch of the Nikl family, except for the descendants of Joseph O. Nikl, a cousin who also left no male descendants (to the writer’s knowledge). William had only one son, James William (writer of this history.) James William had only one son, Richard William, and a daughter, Denise Renee. Richard has no children as of this writing. Denise Renee (Nikl) Bobian has two children: Nicole Deeann Bobian, born living, and Brandon David Bobian, born living.
