JOE AND LINDA [MULLINS] PAESL

Joe and Linda Paesl are current residents helping celebrate Verdigre’s first 100 years. Joe’s grandparents, Anton and Annie Paesl, settled in the area in the early 1900s; therefore, Joe is a native of this community. Joe and Linda were married September 22, 1979, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Their daughter, Carly Jo, was their 1986 Valentine.

Joe was born to Marvin and Helen (Kral) Paesl on living. He has one brother, Ray, and three sisters, Marilyn (Dale Sukup), Patricia (Neil Liska), and Virginia (Daral Grim). Joe attended country school through the seventh grade at Cottonwood Row, District 27, and graduated from Verdigre High School in May 1971. He attended Northeast Technical Community College, majoring in auto mechanics. Joe worked at the Chevrolet garage in Verdigre from 1972-1976; then he began working at Verdigre Sand and Gravel. In 1980, he bought his uncle Andrew Paesl’s farm and is presently farming.

Linda was born and raised on a farm southwest of Plainview, Nebraska. Her parents are Lucille Mlnarik of Verdigre and the late Carl Mullins. Linda had one brother, Gary Mullins, who was killed in March of 1980 in a jet crash while in the Mississippi National Air Guard. Linda went through sixth grade at a country school in Antelope County and graduated from Plainview High School in May of 1970. In 1974 she graduated from Kearney State College with a degree in Elementary Education. She began her career teaching kindergarten on the Santee Sioux Indian Reservation. After two years, Linda moved to Columbus, Nebraska, where she taught first grade for a year before coming to Verdigre where she has taught in the elementary since 1977. In 1983 Linda received her Master’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of South Dakota. She is currently teaching fourth grade to the graduates of 1995.
