On November 28, 1964, Dan married Glenna May Reinoehl, daughter of
Gale B. and Eva May (Kemnitz) Reinoehl.
Glenna was born living, in Dakota City, Nebraska. The family,
including her two brothers, Gary and Harley, moved to South Sioux
until the flood of 1952 when they moved to Verdel. The family moved
to Niobrara during its centennial year - 1956 - where she graduated
from high school with the class of 1964.
Glenna was employed at the Niobrara Drug Store through high school,
and then as a filing clerk for the Knox County Clerk-Register of
Deeds at Center, Nebraska. Dan worked for Mott Feed and Trucking,
and both quit their jobs in August of 1966 to start a new venture
that neither had ever dreamed of publishing a newspaper. The
Verdigre Eagle dated September 1, 1966, carried the announcement of
the birth of the Pavlik’s first child, Colleen Marie, living. She held up the press as the family members working to
get the paper out wanted the “latest.” These members included both
sets of parents and brother and sister-in-law, Buddy and Marguerite Pavlik.
On living, their second child, Rick Daniel, was born. To
everyone’s surprise, he had a twin sister, Jeanne Marie, who arrived
eight minutes later. They were the first boy and girl born in 1970
at the Lundberg Memorial Hospital, Creighton, Nebraska. During this
time, the Pavliks also published the Lynch Herald-Enterprise.
Lisa Marie arrived during Kolach Days, living. She was born
at the Antelope Memorial Hospital in Neligh.
The newspaper and job work have kept them busy, but the family
enjoys weekend outings of camping and boating.
Colleen graduated from Verdigre High in 1984 and during school and
summers was employed at Sonder’s Sundries, Heaton’s, and Alpine
Village. She was a member of the Honor Society, active in band and
chorus, and earned the honor of being the 1983-1984 Kolach Queen. In
the fall of 1984 she enrolled at Wayne State College where she is a
senior majoring in special education. She is a member of the
Cardinal Key, a select women’s organization. Colleen is employed by
the college and at the Wayne Regional Center.
Rick and Jeanne will be 1988 VHS graduates. Both are in band and
jazz band. Rick enjoys football and basketball and likes to water
ski. He has been employed during summers at Sandy’s Service. Jeanne
served as drum majorette for the band and is looking forward to
“running” for Centennial Queen. She is a real asset at home or in
the office.
Lisa is a fifth grader at Verdigre public School, plays in band and
takes piano lessons from Mrs. Edward S. Pavlik. She enjoys swimming.
Dan was Boy Scout leader in the late ‘60s and is a member of the
Verdigre Improvement Club, having served his term as chairman. He is
a charter member of the Verdigre Lions Club, holding the treasurer’s
office since the new club was organized. He is a past member of the
Verdigre Fire Department.
Dan and Glenna are proud of Verdigre and feel fortunate that the
opportunity arose for them to be an active part of Verdigre’s past
and future.
