DR. KENNETH AND NORENE [BUMAN] PAVLIK

Kenneth Kevin, third child of Edwin D. and Christina Guenther Pavlik, was born living, in the back bedroom of their home at 306 West Fourth Avenue in Verdigre.

He attended the local primary and secondary schools graduating in 1952. That autumn he began seven years at Creighton University which culminated in a Doctor of Medicine degree in 1959. After a one-year internship at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska, he served three years in the Navy in the San Francisco area, with fourteen months aboard the U.S.S. Breckenridge transport ship in the Pacific Ocean.

In 1963 Dr. Pavlik moved his family to Edgerton, Wisconsin, where for thirteen enjoyable years he practiced family medicine with Doctors Falk and Boulet in the Edgerton Clinic. In 1976 Dr. Pavlik became an Air Force physician, serving two years as Chief of Hospital Services at Loring Air Force Base, Maine, and two years as Chief of Clinic Services at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado Springs, where he attained the rank of Colonel. In 1980 he transferred to the U. S. Public Health Service, accepting assignment in Charleston, South Carolina, as physician to merchant seamen, fishermen, and Coast Guard. Following the closure of that clinic he practiced at a National Health Service clinic in rural McClellanville, South Carolina, where most of his patients were indigent black people.

In 1982 Dr. Pavlik left active duty for two years, spending this time with his family in Verdigre becoming reacquainted and doing locum tenems for area physicians. In 1984 he returned to active duty with the U. S. Public Health Service to serve for two years as physician at an alien detention center in El Centro, California. In September 1986 Dr. Pavlik returned to Verdigre permanently to practice in the community.

On May 3, 1958, while a junior in medical school, Kenneth took as his bride Norene Theresa Buman of Harlan, Iowa.
