FRANK AND CHRISTINA [SEDIVY] PAVLIK I
Frank Pavlik was born in 1852 in Bozetice, County of Milevska, State
of Tabor, Bohemia, now Czechoslovakia. He was the third son of
Matthew and Marie Barton Pavlik. He arrived in America in 1868 at
the age of 16 with his parents, five brothers, and one sister. His
two older brothers, Miller John and Miller Joseph, were already in
this country. They landed in Baltimore, proceeded to Chicago,
eventually made their way to the Verdigre area and established a
homestead one mile north of Verdigre on a farm now owned by Robert
Jacobs.
Frank spent his time working at whatever job was available and
helping his parents establish a home on the land. On August 31,
1878, he married Christina Sedivy, daughter of Joseph Sedivy and
Mary Roza. They had a short wedded life. Frank was injured in a
wagon accident on the farm and he died in early spring of 1879,
leaving Christina to give birth alone to a son, Frank J. II, on July
1, 1879.
The elder Frank is buried under an oak tree, by his own request, on
his parents’ homestead.
In 1880, Christina married Thomas Belsky and young Frank J. II, was
raised with his eight step-brothers and sisters, the Belsky family.
Christina died on May 6, 1913, and is buried in the Hillcrest
Cemetery.
