HENRY VAC PROKOP

Henry Vac Prokop was born April 22, 1901, to Thomas and Mary Prokop and died August 31, 1962.

He married Irene Mathilda Sonder at Neligh, Nebraska, on January 30, 1937. Three daughters were born to them: Laura Marie (Mrs. Gerain Spatz), Carolyn Irene (Mrs. Rudolph Pavlik), and Sonia Martha (Mrs. Raymond Kounovsky).

Henry farmed until 1938 when they moved to Verdigre where they owned and operated the Minneapolis Moline Implement business until his death. Henry was a member of the Village Board of Trustees and the Board of Education of District 83-R. He was instrumental in getting a doctor for Verdigre and building the new school gym and the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, which was dedicated on June 15, 1952.

Henry loved music and playing in the Verdigre Military Band.

His motto was “What we have done for ourselves, alone, dies with us; what we have done for others and the world remains.”
