In 1898 he and his cousin, George Greenberg, purchased the electric light company and furnished electric lights for Verdigre.

In 1901 he built the first telephone lines as far west as O’Neil.

He was a great baseball player; their winning team had a record of 53 wins in 55 games.

On February 14, 1907, he marred Josephine Preslicka, and they had two sons, Max and Bolton.

In 1909 they moved to a ranch west of Verdigre. In 1920 the family moved back to Verdigre where Mr. Randa served as postmaster for 14 years. His wife Josephine served as clerk for eight years. In later years both Max and Bolton worked in the Verdigre Post Office.

Mr. Randa served as secretary of the Board of Education, was a member of the town council, fire department, and Knox County Selective Service Board as secretary for 6 ½ years during World War II.

He was a long-time member of Ionic Lodge 87 AF & AM of Niobrara. Noted for his fine penmanship, he always filled out the diplomas for graduation.

Vac had one brother and five sisters. He passed away December 23, 1966.

Vac’s wife Josephine was born in New Prague, Minnesota, on February 15, 1886. After her schooling, she had employment in Minneapolis and St. Paul. Her father passed away in 1903 and in 1904 her mother and sisters moved to Verdigre. Her sister Mary married John Pavlik, Rose married Anton Franek, Anna married A. L. Tomsik, and Nettie married Louis J. Bartak; they all lived in Verdigre.

Max and Bolton still live in Verdigre. Bolton and Lottie have two son, Donald and Charles, and a daughter Betty.
