WALTER P. AND ALICE [MARSHALL] RUZICKA

Walter P. Ruzicka, the youngest child born to Frank and Jane (Minarik) Ruzicka, was born February 17, 1915, at Pischelville.

Walt completed his eighth grade education at Steele Creek School District No. 46. After his schooling, he farmed with his father and brothers until 1942. He served in World War II from 1942 to 1945 and was stationed in the Philippine Islands, Australia, and New Guinea.

On July 17, 1947, he married Alice Marshall at O’Neill, Nebraska. To this union three children were born, Robert, Irene, and Diana.

They farmed in the Pischelville area all his life. His entire life was centered around his home and family and watching his seven grandsons grow. He suffered poor health due to cancer, but rallied to the treatments and was considered cured. Next to his family, he loved the outdoors. Dogs and cats waited to see Walt’s face each morning. After chores, he would go fishing or check his traps. He enjoyed taking short trips just to observe the countryside.

Walt was the commander of David Morgan American Legion Post No. 223 at Verdel, Nebraska. He was also an active Farmer’s Union member.

He passed away February 5, 1983, of an apparent heart attack at his home and was buried at Pischelville Cemetery.

Following the death of her husband, Alice moved to Verdigre to the Czech Alps Terrace. She enjoys reading and embroidering.
