SANDOZ FAMILY HISTORY

The family of Jonas Ulysses Sandoz came to the United States in 1884 from Neuchatel, Switzerland. The family consisted of Jonas, his wife Cecile, their son Camille and his wife Rosalie and five boys, and their daughter-in-law Elisa and her daughter, Celia. Son Tell, the husband of Elisa and father of Celia, had come to the United States two years previously.

The families settled on homesteads 3 ˝ miles southeast of Verdigre. They were neighbors of “Old Jules” Sandoz whose life story was published in the book Old Jules by his daughter Mari Sandoz. All were subject to the trials and tribulations of the early pioneer homesteaders.

Jonas died in 1885 at the age of 65 and his wife Cecile died in 1892 at the age of 69.
