LAWRENCE H. AND IRENE [KOUNOVSKY] SANDOZ
Lawrence H. Sandoz, son of Ernest C. and Minnie C. Stoural Sandoz,
was born October 16, 1918, at Verdigre. Minnie C. was the daughter
of Thomas C. Stoural (born December 9, 1857, died October 5, 1934)
and Antonia Divis (born February 10, 1865, died November 15, 1957).
They were united in marriage May 25, 1884.
Lawrence attended Verdigre Public School and graduated in 1936. He
attended Santa Ana Junior College in California for one year. He was
bookkeeper for Omaha Cold Storage in Winner, South Dakota, from 1939
to 1941, when he was drafted into the service of the Quartermaster
Corporation-Transportation. Lawrence was discharged in 1950.
He operated Sandy’s Service and Nutrena Feeds from 1950 to 1955. He
only sold Nutrena Feeds from 1956 to 1957 when he went into
partnership with Charles Schreier and the business became “S & S
Service.”
In August of 1982 Sandy and wife Irene formed a partnership and
purchased Charles Schreier’s share of the business. They opened
Sandy’s Service and operate it at the present time.
Lawrence H. and Irene E. Kounovsky were united in marriage on
September 9, 1947.
To this union six children were born: Michael L., Jeremy J., Mary
C., Mark D., Brian P., and
Amy M.
Michael was born living, 1948 and married Verene G. Bruckner on
August 29, 1970.
Jeremy J. was born living, and married Diana L. Hamilton on
June 30, 1972, and a son, Cory A., was born. He married Cheryl L. Schander on May 26, 1977, and they have two sons: Matthew R., and
Aaron K.
Mary was born living, and she married David G. Snyder on
August 28, 1979.
Mark was born January 10, 1955, and died May 28, 1971.
Brian was born living, and married Jill K. Ickler on
April 16, 1983. They have two sons, Colin P. and Clint J., and
reside in Verdigre.
Amy was born living.
