TELL AND ELISA SANDOZ
Tell and Elisa Sandoz’ family grew to eight children. Celia was born
in Switzerland, and William, Matilda, Alfred, Alcid, Emma, Albert,
and Tell, Jr., were born in the United States.
Tell Sandoz was a skillful gardener and horticulturist. He and his
wife retired from the farm in 1914 and moved to Verdigre where his
residential premises bore evidence of his capabilities as a
gardener. Tell died in 1917 at the age of 65. Elisa died in 1952 at
the age of 91. After Elisa’s father had passed away in Switzerland,
her mother, Rosina Von Kanel, came to live with her daughter in the
United States. Rosina died in 1917 at the age of 80, just two months
before the death of her son-in-law, Tell.
Celia Sandoz and Harry Chrisman were married in 1906. They farmed at
Murietta, California, and after leaving the farm he worked as a
salesman. Celia was also employed at the Murietta Hot Springs. Celia
died in 1937 at the age of 54. Harry died in 1952 at the age of 66.
They had four children, Walker, Alvin, Virginia, and Jane.
William Sandoz and Emma Peters married in 1915. They lived in Bazile
Mills and Potter, Nebraska, and in the state of California. William
was employed as a salesman most of his life. He died in 1951 at the
age of 66 and Emma died in 1950 at the age of 54. They had one son,
Donald.
Matilda Sandoz and August Lambelet married in 1904 and were farmers
at Brock, Nebraska, for their lifetime. Matilda died in 1957 at age
71, and August died in 1941 at age 67. They had seven children:
Alcid, Eloise, Edmond, Madeline, Amelia, Victor, and Woodrow.
Alfred Sandoz and Emma Brodbeck were married in 1914. They farmed
the Tell Sandoz home place until they purchased a farm at Brush,
Colorado. Upon retirement, they moved to Greeley, Colorado. Alfred
died in 1947 at age 60 and Emma died in 1966 at age 76. They had
eight children: Laurel, Ilene, Oliver, Sam, Dorothy, Lorena, Lola,
and Betty.
Alcid Sandoz and Ruth Olson were married in 1923. They operated a
wholesale business in Seattle, Washington. Alcid died in 1974 at the
age of 85. Ruth lives in San Diego, California, and had attained the
age of 89 in 1986.
Emma Sandoz and Andrew McGill were married in 1914. They operated a
drug store in Winnetoon, Nebraska, and then moved to California
where he was employed as a paint salesman until retirement. Emma
died in 1980 at the age of 88 and Andrew in 1977 at the age of 89.
They had three children: June, Keith, and Milton.
Albert Sandoz and Eva Schrader were married in 1916. He was employed
by the Anderson Lumber Company, first in South Dakota and then in
Minnesota. Eva worked for the canning factory in Fairmont,
Minnesota, after the children were grown. Eva died in 1966 at the
age of 71 and Albert died in 1967 at 74 years of age. They had three
children: Mildred, Wayne, and Bernadine.
Tell Sandoz, Jr., was in business in Seattle, Washington, for some
years and then came back to Verdigre and Creighton, Nebraska, and
operated jewelry and watch repair stores. In 1955 he moved his
business to Vista and Lemon Grove, California, retiring in 1973.
Tell, Jr., is still living in Hayward, California, and was 86 in
June of 1986.
